Calorie Count your way through the Festive Season

To prevent you from piling on the pounds over the holiday season the Entice team has put together some helpful hints and tips so that you can enjoy the festivities, without any consequences:

Festive Chocolates and Sweet Treats

Over the Christmas period you might find you’re inundated with chocolate boxes and festive treats. It can be hard to resist temptation, so if you’re tucking into a selection box go for dark chocolates, which are much better for you due to their higher percentage of cocoa. Or opt for some dried fruit or nuts to indulge the healthy way.

Exercise

If your Christmas schedule is already packed to the brim, and work parties and family commitments mean you aren’t able to make it to the gym, don’t give up on exercise altogether. Exercise can be a fun and healthy family activity, so why not entice your family and friends to join you on a brisk Christmas walk; it will help you to burn off extra calories and is also a great bonding activity.

Don’t over eat

With temptation all around, it can be easy to over indulge. To combat this, take your time and enjoy every meal by eating slowly. This can help you to become fuller quicker, avoid over eating and eliminate discomfort post meal.

You could also opt for a smaller plate as your brain will automatically assume you have more food so you are more likely to feel full without feeling like you are depriving yourself.

Lastly, why not try some clever festive food swaps? For some people, roast potatoes are the highlight of Christmas dinner. All that oil triples the calorie count and more than quadruples the fat. So why not try mixing it up and choose between boiled and roast potatoes. You could even break with tradition completely and roast some healthier vegetables instead!

 Limit your alcohol consumption

Over Christmas you should accept that temptation is everywhere, so be selective about which treats you say yes to. Remember that an alcoholic drink will make you eat more, not less, so make your first drink a non-alcoholic one and you will be less likely to over eat.

Alcohol contains a huge amount of “empty” calories, so we recommend buying a light wine or trying a spirit with a low calorie mixer, such as vodka and slimline tonic. This will enable you to still enjoy a drink with friends, with fewer calories!
